Cracked wall, concern?

do I need to worry? this crack has been evident since I moved here in 1999, its been filled several times but keeps coming back. Its in the bathroom upstairs, outside on the north facing wall the bricks look fine. It was filled by a builder who did our bathroom early this year but has come back again. I have now filled it with flexible gap filler but am concerned as I was able to get my knife right in to the cavity in places. What should I do?

I wondered how you got such a big horizontal crack
It looks like plaster and not drywall, correct?
When repairing plaster I've had good results using a setting compound like durabond. It dries harder than regular joint compound. Using regular j/c without tape is guaranteed failure. It would be best to use drywall tape embedded in j/c to cover the crack. That way the gap is spanned and less likely to reappear.
Don't know that I've ever heard of that, what did you use?
