How to remove old felt from your wall?

I'm in the process of removing wall paper from our old house. Removing, but it's very time consuming. I have two questions: 1. The wood underneath the felt is beautiful and I would like to stain it but I’m wondering what the felt was for and If I need to leave it? 2. Anyone know of a faster way of removing this from the wall?

Wallpaper, felt, wood.......none really go together. Can you post pictures of what you have so we can see what you see? http://www.doityourself.com/forum/el...your-post.html

I assume the felt was applied in order for the wallpaper to be hung over the wood. What type of wood is it? paneling or solid wood? Pics will help
