shortening a load bearing wall

shortening a load bearing wall

i am looking to shorten this wall by 9.5 inches. i have added a new 2x4 for support. is this ok?

let me know i attached some pictures

So the wall is going to stop nearly a foot short of the beam yet the 2x4 will continue to the beam?

I don't see where this is going, what are you trying to accomplish?

if you look at the first picture, i want to remove the section of wall my level is resting against.

im framing in a door for a closet under neath my stairs, now i will have this small section of wall sticking out. i hope this helps

Ah, you want to shorten the width of the wall, right? I was thinking height based on the word shorten.

yes, the width. sometimes it can be hard to put what needs done into words

It won't present a problem as the metal beam is your load bearing member. That will give you a straight across door opening, and I am assuming that is what you want without the "tail" sticking out into oblivion, right?

You'll need to properly reroute your wiring and switching, but I assume you have that under control. Let us know if we can help further.
