Asbestos or something else?

Hi guys I live in an older building which I was told was gut renovated in 2000. There was a wall sconce that fell out of my bathroom wall leaving a hole for a while which I now have covered with masking tape. I took a picture of the hole as I see these brown fiber strands coming out behind the Sheetrock. I am afraid it might be brown asbestos? Is it or is it something else since my landlord said the building was done from the bricks up in 2000? The picture is in my attachments.

Doubt it is asbestos but asbestos is only harmful if you work with it in a factory or shipyard with out proper dust abatement for many years so I wouldn't worry. May be cellulose insulation.

I can't tell from the pic what the fibers are but asbestos has been banned from residential and commercial buildings for over 30 yrs. If the remodel was a total gut, there shouldn't be any asbestos in the building.
Is this an interior or exterior wall?... or between your unit and the neighbors?

It's an interior wall in my bathroom where a light fixture was covering it.

Not likely to be insulation if it's an interior wall. Are you sure it's not just dust, it's not like the wall cavity ever gets cleaned.

If it was behind a light fixture, I think it is a heat shield. Similar to what you would find inside an enclosed ceiling fixture.

What ever it is it is not harmful. Have the landlord install a new light fixture to cover it.
