Prep for Texture over Paint

I want to do a thin texture over existing wall paint using joint compound. If I just scuff sand the old paint and wipe it down with a damp sponge, will I get good adhesion?

Thanks!

Welcome to the forums.

Probably - scuff sand and then remove the sanding dust is a pretty good start.

What kind of paint is on the wall? Latex enamel should be sanded well, for flat latex - a hit and a miss should be enough
