Hole in ceiling with pipes showing in room. messy job.

Hello my name is Andrew. First time poster found this site while looking for ways to fix my ceiling any help would be great.

So I basically moved into a semi finished basement room. All is fine except this part of the ceiling where it has a large hole in the ceiling with three or four Orange pipes coming out ( gas or water i assume) that go across my ceiling about five feet and into another hole. I want to try and make this look somewhat presentable though it seems that the only way to hide the pipes would be to cut out enough space for them in the large support beams ( which i don't know if it's safe to do or not) and then patch the holes with dry wall. I have some pictures I'll try to upload if the site let's me. Thanks for any help or info in advanced. Basically taking any input or suggestions.

Welcome to the forums!

Those pipes look like they might be part of a radiant heating system. If you would have to cut support framing to raise them, then don't. Instead, build a bulkhead to enclose them.

Quick question: If you are a tenant, are you allowed to build improvements?

I agree! You might need to include an access "door" where the valve is and the electrical junction box.

The land lord already stated we are allowed to make improvments as long as the there is no major construction like removing or adding walls. I did also thing about enclosing it, was trying to keep that a second option as it will look bulky. But anything is better then what it is now.

I agree. Build a bulkhead. I would push the pipes back towards the existing bulkheads as far as possible. Then framing a bulkhead would be as simple as nailing 2x4 flat on the ceiling (Assuming 1 1/2" is enough to cover pipes) if not "pad" it down with a little more and then install DW.

I have one question. See picture below. Is that some kind of surface raceway wiring?

Looks like surfaced mounted wiring. Just a way to try and make it look nice because they were to lazy to put it in the wall.
