Question Hardieboard Joints, tape and....?

I am putting up walls in a shower using 1/2 inch hardieboard backer. I have the mesh tape for the joints, and plan to coat the backer with redguard. Do I need to fill the joints with mortar or thin set? Or, can I just tape them and redguard over it?

Thanks in advance,
Curtis

Welcome to the forums! No need to fill the joints. Hopefully you can't drive a truck through any of them Just use approved mesh and thinset to apply it and smooth it out. You can redgard afterwards.

Just to expand on Larrys answer...you need the right type of tape. Regular stuff for sheetrock won't cut it. Read the label......
