From Electrical to wall troubles!

I bought a Ranch style home in October of last year. I wanted to add some circuits and the further I got into the project the more problems I found. I had to tear down a section of drywall to rewire and replace the electrical box(s). I stripped the wall paper and this is what was underneath. Since the room, a half bath, is only 5X4X8 is it worth my time to try to sand the walls or should I just replace the drywall. These are the pictures of the room. There was / is a strong odor of ammonia in the room after removing the wall paper.Name: Wallcloseup.jpg

Never mind decision forced on me.

I tried sanding the walls and continued to notice the odor. I am assuming that the odor has permeated the dry wall. The vinyl wall paper was covering it up. Once I removed the wall paper the cat was out of the bag. Makes sense though. Nothing in this has been easy or have a price tag attached to it!

Some Kilz primer might help. What are you planning to do to the walls - tile, paint, paper?
