Expansion Joints for Drywall
Hello....
So I just bought a couple 10' long metal expansion joints to install in my drywall.
Right now the cracks aren't bad (still noticeable) but because it's the Summer they are closer together. The Winter time is a different story as the walls contract and the cracks are more prominent.
From my understanding, I just dig out the crack, place the "V" inside and make sure the mesh is flat with the wall. Then obviously rip the plastic strip out of the middle.
My question is, Should I wait until the winter when the cracks are more open and have a better idea on how bad they get or does it even matter at all when I do it?
P.S. - I know the reason for the cracks and there is no structural concern at all.
Thanks

that metal expansion strip is made to be mudded (the plastic in the middle is there to keep mud out untill you are done) Ideally, both sides of the expansion should be attatched to framing with screws or nails. then mud each side just like you are mudding a cornerbead or joint. After a couple coats, sand, pull off the plastic strip in the middle and paint
