New drywall finishing....

Just had my basement drywalled and the ceiling done with a knockdown texture.

Does that ceiling require priming and/or painting? I was considering spraying the basement with primer and was trying to figure out if I can just spray the ceiling as well....

It's best to prime/paint the texture! That protects the texture [which is water soluble] from absorbing moisture from the air and deteriorating over time.

Although this doesn't help you at this point, one thing we've done in the past is mix primer in with the mud (texture) mix prior to spraying it on. When it dries, it's already firmed up quite a bit from the hardening of the primer.

But yes, as Marksr said you really should prime/paint this while you're in the process of doing the basement. It's a real mess to do afterwards.
