Tape is coming off

Hello,

I bought a house last year. House was built in 1988. I am remodelling my bathroom and remove the wallpaper when I noticed that the tape on the corner where the drywall sheets meet is coming off.
What would you recommend?

Thank you

2 choices; either mud the tape back in place or cut it out and retape.

Ahh, I'll choose the easier way. Re-mud. lol
But why did it come off? Are the walls moving? Wouldn't it be better to use silicon in the corner?

Most joint compounds are water soluble. The humidity of the bath rm may have deteriorated the mud. It's also possible the wallpaper removal process played a part. Some times leaks can cause the tape to come loose but your pic doesn't show any signs of there having been any leaks. Unless your wall is wobbly, I wouldn't be too concerned about the structure.

Wallpapers aren't removed in this picture and no water damage. I live in TN and may the humidity caused that.

Almost all bath rms are subjected to high humidity. While all bath rms should have an exhaust ventilation they are often undersized or under used. I also live in tenn but don't think the location is a big deal. I used to live in fla which has a lot higher humidity but I've never noticed much difference in how often it occurs based on location.

Occasionally tape will come loose because the drywall finisher did a poor job [often by thinning the j/c too much] but those failures usually occur earlier and throughout the entire house..

Just went through the eniter house and indeed in some other rooms the tape is coming off too.
I also lived in Florida for a few years on th eeast coast. And you are right, I often had the windows open to have air cieculated and never had that kind of problem. So thinking about that it must be a bad job done.
