Cable stuck in wall
So I decided I wanted to move my cable modem to a different room. In the initial installation, the comcast installer just ran the cable around the outside of the house and then straight through the wall. My plan was to "simply" pull the cable out of the wall, run it though a vent into the attic right next to the room I want it in, then down the wall along with my tv cable.
So I got as far as getting the cable into the attic and quickly realized it's not that simple to stick the cable down and get it through the hole, so my genius idea was to tie 2 strings on to the TV cable, pull it up, then tie one of the strings to the modem cable and pull them back down.
So I tied the strings onto the TV cable and started pulling it up, and after about 6 inches it got stuck and I cant pull it anymore, so I tried to pull it back down and it wont come down either.
I have no idea what to do now, I can't cut open the wall or anything like that. Anyone have any suggestions as to what the problem might be and how I can fix it?
Also I was wondering how the plastic box that the cables go into and the face plate screws to is attached to the wall. I can't see any screws or anything that are holding it in, but it wont come out, and it would be a lot easier to pull the string and possibly see up into the wall if I could get it out.
Any help is appreciated, thanks

Welcome to the forums.
If you tried getting connectors to go thru the wall that would most likely be what is stuck.
The plastic box the cable came thru is probably nailed to the beam. You can carefully cut out the back or the side of the box.
You were partially right. You pull the existing cable up to the attic with one string attached. You use one string to pull both cables down ..... usually with no connectors attached as you want the wires to fit thru a small hole.
The other thing that may have happened is that you pulled the wire up to the attic that was stapled loosely to the beam. You tied the string on and when you pulled the wire back down the wire got caught on a staple.
I'm guessing you have insulation in the wall which means you may have to use a fish tape to get the wire(s) thru the wall.

Thanks for the reply.
I think you misunderstood part of it (probably my fault in my explanation) I only pulled the cable up about 6 inches before it got stuck, so it's nowhere near the hole yet.
I thought it might be stapled too when it got stuck as I was trying to pull it up, but I should be able to pull it back down still I think.
There's no insulation in this wall as far as I can tell(it's an inside wall)

Can't find the edit button, sorry if it's there and I'm just blind
I looked up the model of the plastic box to see how it attached to the wall and found it has a nail on the top and bottom (this) I tried just cutting the plastic to remove it but I couldn't get it so I just cut about an inch of drywall on the side so that I could pull the nails out and remove it. I'll just get a wider box to fill the space. (I was planning on installing some Ethernet jacks eventually and could use the extra space anyways)
So I was able to stick my hand in and pull the cable down with more force than I was able to by pulling the string and I got it.
I'm still having problems getting my modem cable down though. I tried just pushing it down again and it doesn't even get close. I then tried taping a screwdriver drill bit on a piece of string and dropped it down and it got down just fine. So then I taped the end of the coax cable to it to pull it down and it's getting stuck.
I stuck my camera in the wall and pointed it up to try to see if there's anything it's getting caught on and I see nothing. (turns out you were right about the staple holding the TV cable too)
You can't really see anything high up in the pics I took, so I don't know what it could possibly be getting caught on..

In your pictures, what is the green thing, behind the black cable, that looks like a fiberglass push pole? Where is the string you say you managed to get down to the hole in the wall?

Your trying to push a noodle, If you were able to get a string with a screw driver head down then solicit the help of a friend (a beer usually sweetens the pot). One pulls and the other pushes from opposite ends. I suspect that the cable is experiencing some friction from a not perfectly round hole. Guiding it from both ends should help it down.

The green thing is the 'string' (it's actually weed eater line)
I was already doing that with my brother. The cable gets through the hole just fine, it's getting caught on something else.

It may be easier to just drop a piece of string and a small nut. That weed eater line looks like it's wrapped around the coax which will cause issues.
Try some thin string like white cotton or poly. Something that will just drop and not snake itself around existing wires.

I got it
For some reason when I was having my brother pull it, it kept getting stuck, but when I tried it came down just fine.
I think I'll just stick to computers from now on and leave the physical work to someone else
