Addon - Lower Rafters - Removal / Raising
Hello all!
I purchased my house in 2009, and when I purchased it there was an incomplete room that was really weird. I let a contractor put it back together and called it a day.
Fast forward to now, after getting released from the military I am gung ho about making that room my "Man-Cave" and Wanted to hang a drop ceiling without the tiles, (industrial look);
Long story short, I tore down the drywall and found the lower rafters that the sheetrock was attached too, and want to know if I can raise them up and out of the way (they are at an angle.....) or PREFERABLY remove them entirely.
I took pictures for your viewing pleasure. I removed 2, for damage reasons...oops...my bad on removing sheet rock...lol... and they were VERY easy to remove, and easy to replace I imagine. That leads me to believe they are either non load bearing (directly) or have something to do with sway and wall push or something....
Thanks for the help!

I don't know if it's the angle of the pics or what but the rafter system looks a little strange. I would expect the lower 2xs are needed to keep the walls from bowing out. The carpenters should be along later with more/better info for you.
