Help with replicating this ceiling texture style
I'm planning on putting some lights up in the ceiling and will have to patch my ceiling and was hoping to get a few second opinions on what technique is used to get this texture affect on my ceiling. I think it was done with a trowel or blade and then flattened out. I'm by no means an expert though and wanted to try to get some feedback to see if this sounds about right.

Most likely small sections, maybe 6"x4", just enough room to get some 12/2 wire through through. Probably 5 or 6 of them. I'm going to have to cut out a few small ceiling sections to run some wire up there. I was trying to avoid any ceiling work, but the way my joists run in the room, it's looking easier than the other alternatives.

Thank you. Only method I've ever done is with a mop/brush stomping it, and trying to get a close match was always a bear. This looks a little easier and forgiving I'm hoping.

Not a bad idea to practice on cardboard or other scrap material to perfect your technique before moving to the actual ceiling.
