How to cover chimney pole

We have a small living room. Really small. So picture a wall with a flat screen tv on it. Now picture the wall across from it. This wall has a closet in it. We wanted to take out the closet/wall to make room for a sofa, so everyone doesn't have to crick their necks to watch tv. Haha !!problem is next to closet is the chimney pole!!!!
Has anyone ever seen a pole "decorated" over with a column or anything ? Only problem is we couldn't make a column adjacent to it on the other side.
Any ideas????

What is a chimney pole? Do you mean a metal chimney vent pipe?

@marksr... Thanks sorry abt that.....I didn't know. Pics r attached now( I hope)
@ray2047 yes! Sorry for my ignorance.

The chimney vent pipe coming up from the basement is like between the light switch and therm. On the wall (pic attached). We originally wanted to take out that entire wall and make it the walk way adding extra space. But since the chimney pipe is literally right there, I say we just take out closet and keep a little small wall but the husband says no that will look silly, there has to be another way to do it?????
Thanks for feedback!!!
Nicole

Is the chase [what houses the stove pipe] in the closet? What is the stove pipe connected to? wood stove? furnace? something else? Is the wall you want to remove or move back the one in the top pic?
Do you know if that wall is load bearing?

It is not in the closet. It is to the left of the closet. If u look at the picture of the closet door, you will see a thermostat and a light switch, the "chase" is behind those inside the wall.
Connected to furnace in basement.
Yes
Was told it is not load bearing.
Thanks much!!

If vent is where I indicated in the picture is there a way to reroute it. Probably not but post a picture of where it goes to.

@ray2047 Yes that is where it is. Don't believe reroute is possible. If we did take out that entire wall it would look really bizarre to have just this ugly metal pole looking thing right smack in the middle. We cut a little hole in closet to see it which is why the pic of it looks funny , but kinda just stationed right the middle of the inside.
Thanks!

If the furnace has been in service for a while, maybe you could justify replacing it with a new, higher-efficiency unit. They usually don't require a separate vent to the roof, but rather use two smaller PVC pipes (one fresh air intake, one exhaust outlet) horizontally through the basement wall. Doing that would enable you to completely remove the wall and existing furnace pole (er, vent).

If I couldn't reroute the stove pipe, I'd want to leave it boxed in which means you'd just be removing the closet and leaving that portion of the wall. Inserting a couch where the chair is might keep it from looking odd.

Well at least we know why they built the closet. Please post pictures of the basement. Get far enough back so we get a feel for the area where the vent goes.

My idea is something like this:
