reliable stud finder suggestions

I have an old model probably relatively cheap Zircon stud finder called a StudSensor2. I've never had much success with it accurately detecting studs behind even average sheetrock covered interior walls with wooden studs. It almost always gives ambiguous results and is frustrating to hassle with because of that. In fact that's been my experience with most stud finders I've ever had occasion to use. So I'm in the market for a decent one I can rely on most of the time to help me accurately (non-amiguously) detect wooden studs up to behind as thick as 5/8" sheetrock with 1/2" plywood behind it, and as well with the ability to detect metal studs behind such. Not that that is the thickness and material I'll always be searching for studs through, but still I want that ability.

Like anything else there's plenty of different types and models from which to choose. I'm not a professional remodeler or anything like who may require the best and most expensive, but perhaps there is sort of a "semi-professional" handyman type model available. The reviews on the online shopping places for the various models are ambiguous as well. And I'm not fond of at all of ambiguous. Hard to determine which one to consider buying when one guy says its great while the next guy says it sucks. I suppose I'm prepared to spend up to 50 bucks, or maybe 75 if necessary, but not much more.

Any suggestions/comments? Thanks
