Big ceiling cracks above water pipe

Hello, this spring or summer I'm going to fix up my room a little bit and I have no experience in this at all. First of all there are big cracks in the ceiling above the water pipe which is hot when heated, then there are lines in my ceiling which probably can just be sanded and then repainted.

What do I do about the cracks? What do I use to fill them?

Welcome to the forums!

I'm not real familiar with steam heat but would think a setting compound like Durabond would be the way to go. Check back later and see what some of the others suggest.
