Drywall over brick fireplace
I currently have an older brick fireplace in my living room. The fireplace is wood burning with a raised hearth, similar to the one pictured below;

I have three sections of granite that will surround the firebox that are 12 inches wide (per code for combustible material) that I will attach to the brick. I will then install fireplace doors to enclose the firebox. I built a wood fireplace surround and mantel that will surround the granite. I have granite sections that are 12 inches wide to cover the raised hearth.
I want to cover the rest of the brick with drywall and for that I will attach 1x2 furring strips directly to the brick with tapcons and then the drywall to the furring strips.
That is my plan for now and am just looking for input on if that is a good plan or what modifications I should make.
Thanks
