base of walls leaking

i have a room built on top of concrete and every time it rains water leaks in the base of the walls how can i stop the leaking?

We need more info than that. Is there a high water table? Is the pitch towards the house? Are all the walls leaking? Is the room a converted garage? Can you post some pics from the outside?

If this is a slab foundation, it sounds like the grade around the foundation is too high. Water should run away from a house. And the soil outside can't be higher than the top of the slab.

Need to hang mirror, AC detected from stud finder

I'm a rookie with very little home renovation / improvement know how. My wife asked me to try and mount a mirror, its heavy, about 40 pounds. The mirror has two d-rings on the back and a big warning not to use wires for hanging. The recommendation is "L" hook for wood / struts , or anchors for plaster. One of the d-rings would be exactly centered over a stud, which i figured is good, except that the AC detector happens to go crazy over this point. I scanned around this point, and about 4 inches above and below, the AC detector beeps / flashes loudly. A little further away the AC light turns on, but doesn't beep. A little more further away, there is no warning. I figure there is a wire going through the stud? Maybe the stud has been drilled through and there are cables going through it horizontally? I'm not sure how to get around this problem. I thought maybe move the pre-installed d-rings up? They are about 12 inches from the top of the frame. Will appreciate suggestions, thanks

I just bought a semi attached home supposedly built in 1910. I'm demoing the entire house and have taken down all the plaster walls. Behind the lathing on the walls adjoining me and my neighbor is the black substance. Almost looks like dirt or coal. I have no experience with it and am now a little concerned it could be asbestos. Anyone have any experience with this? I know the picture is not great. It's only in the walls adjoining is so I think it's prob some type of fire retardent. Thanks for the help guys.
