cement board and liquid waterproofing?

We just discovered that our contractor - now no longer our contractor- did not install a vapor barrier behind the cement board that he installed in our bathroom. The walls in question will be tiled, as our tub/shower surround.

Short of pulling down the cement board to install the vapor barrier, is there anything else we can do? Can we apply liquid masonry waterproofing to the cement board?

We really do not want to have to take it all down.....thoughts?

There is no need for a vapor barrier behind the tile board.
It's water proofed on the face of it with a product like Red Guard.
