Wink Drywall over a cinder block chimney?

I'm taking down the old lath and plaster walls in my hallway and putting in new drywall. There is a small 3'x6' door that i guess was used to access a section of the cinder block chimney for an interior wood furnace in the basement. I want to put drywall over the old doorway but i wasn't sure if i needed to put anything between the chimney and the drywall. Any help is welcomed.

Welcome to the forums Amanda!

A pic or two would allow us to see exactly what you are dealing with - http://www.doityourself.com/forum/el...-pictures.html

Drywall should never be installed directly to masonry! Usually either furring strips are installed to attach the drywall to or a stud wall is erected in front of the masonry wall.
