Question What would be the best covering for my existing wall

Hello all, new here, but needing some expert advice.
We bought our house last year and are now wanting to make it our own.
Our house was built in 1939 and under many layers of wallpaper throughout the interior the walls are covered with a very solid, very unattractive horizontal slat boards. They do not appear to be tongue in groove, but are covered in nails and are generally unattractive. The wall papering shows undulations throughout so this isn't the best option. We had considered cleaning some of these wood walls and having them on display, but this would not be efficient or attractive due to the amount of nails in them. My question is this: What would be the best covering for these walls? Drywall? Panelling? Plaster? I am at a loss and would love some advice on this. Thanks so much. Sorry I do not have a picture. Maybe I can upload one later.

Welcome to the forums!

Pics would be helpful - http://www.doityourself.com/forum/el...-pictures.html

Was the wallpaper hung directly over these slats? What's behind the slats?

Laminating the wall with drywall or paneling might be the simplest option.

Thanks.
And yes, the wallpaper was applied directly to the slat board walls. Overall they are mostly level, but the wall paper shows every detail of the slats underneath giving the wallpaper its undulation. I figured drywall would be our best option, but was hoping there would be a cheaper alternative.
When I get home from work I will get some pictures so you can get a better idea.
Thanks for the response.

When we bought our house, two rooms had paneling and the kitchen had some ugly faux brick glued on, and two rooms had drop ceilings.
One day we finally decided to get rid of all that and put new up drywall. Best thing we ever did. Looks clean and modern and you can paint any color you want.
Was messy and a bit of work, but worth it in the end.
