Horrible popcorn ceiling, hardened
Hey all,
I am trying to remove my popcorn ceiling. However it is super hard. I dont know how it was put on or what it is but it is extremely hard to remove. I sprayed it with water and I was able to scrape a a first layer of paint but is not coming off in globs like all those nice you tube videos.
Why is this so difficult its almost like cement.

Might be easier to skim coat it with joint compound if removing it is giving you that much trouble. Normally, popcorn is easy but horribly messy.

same thing here
I'm having the same issue- have wet down portions of the ceiling, a couple of times. I even scraped off the very top layer and sprayed with water. After 15 min, still hard to scrape off.
Did you end up sanding and using Joint compound?

IF the popcorn has been painted it will difficult to remove but it still should scrape off. Popcorn texture just needs to get wet to make it easy to scrape off. Paint makes it harder for the texture to absorb the water but generally scraping first will remove enough of the paint to allow the texture to absorb moisture.
Usually it's best to remove as much as you can and then skim coat the ceiling. One of the reasons popcorn is sprayed on the ceiling is so the finisher doesn't have to do as good of a job [popcorn hides a lot]
