Talking Just gutted my bathroom

I just gutted my bathroom floor to ceiling and am planning to use greenboard for the shower walls (I will be installing Tere-Stone panels for the shower). I'm also planning to use blueboard for the rest of the walls because we plan to have veneer plastering. The shower panels are 60" so that leaves roughly 18" between the top of the panel and the ceiling - should I use blueboard for that space or will greenboard be acceptable for veneer plaster there? If the concensus is to switch to blueboard for that area, how much above the shower panel should I go with the greenboard? I'm also planning to use blueboard for the ceiling.

Welcome to the forums! I separated your post from the 14 year old thread you hijacked. No problem.
Greenboard is not accepted in a wet area. It is moisture resistant, not water proof. I know the tere stone panels are supposed to be impermeable, but "what if". I would rather have concrete backer underlayment in 1/2" up to the point of 18" and blueboard above that for your plaster. With a vapor barrier under the cbu, you won't have mold problems in the future should the impossible happen.

Thank you Larry. I understand what you're saying about greenboard. Tere-stone actually specifies greenboard but cbu is acceptable. Just so I'm clear: I'd have to install in this order: vapor barrier, plywood underlayment(1/2 or 5/8"), mastic, 1/2" cbu then the tere-stone. This would make the walls close to 1 1/2" thick - sticking way out over the lip of the tub. Thanks for the advice - I appreciate it.

Vapor barrier, sheetrock or cbu, tere stone. Why plywood?

Wondering the same thing ;-)

I was actually thinking the same thing - I am going to be using cement board on the floor as tile underlayment and will be putting down some plywood first so I have something to apply the thinset to. I will go with vapor barrier and cbu in the shower.

Thank you for allowing me to bounce questions/ideas off you! If you're interested I can post some pics as I progress. It will be interesting working with the tere stone. The place that we ordered it let me have a tere stone vanity top that they were going to throw away as part of their showroom refresh so I can practice drilling and cutting. I will be putting in a double shampoo shampoo in the 5 ft. wall panel.
