Have old thin set on horsehair, how to begin a backsplash
Hi all, I removed tile backsplash in my kitchen and have old, wavy thin set on horsehair. I want to install a new backsplash, but I cannot remove the thin set without damaging the wall. I was thinking of putting up laminate drywall to cover it, then tiling over that. Any ideas on how to tackle this without removing the walls and replacing new drywall?

Welcome to the forums!
If you add drywall or cement board you will extend how far the tile sets out from the wall which may or may not pose an issue with the counter or backsplash. I'd try and level out the existing wall with more thinset or a setting compound like durabond.

Thanks for the quick reply, I hadn't even thought of durabond. This is my first DIY project so I just want to do it right and without added cost. So, sand, vacuum out dust, durabond then I can start my tile project?
