Drywall: Which way to hang with drop ceiling?

Hi everyone,

I gutted the basement and have the 4.8 drywall all ready to go. I will be installing a drop ceiling after the walls. I read that you can install the drywall vertically if a drop ceiling is going in...is this true?

I don't mind installing the drywall either way, just want to do it right.

Thanks in advance

What's the height in the basement?

Generally speaking, it's easier to finish drywall hung horizontally.

8 ft ceilings. Horizontal makes sense. Thanks a lot.

Unless you have wall lengths which would result in excess waste hanging horizontally, that's what I'd do.

I agree with the horizontal hang - makes finishing a lot easier with a tired back

One consideration though is how far down will the drop ceiling come? You don't want to lay the track in the factory bevel.
