wondering what metal in bathroom drywall is.....

I'm a very new DIYer and was attempting my first project: mounting a toilet paper holder
I was drilling the last hole and came across some metal in the drywall (very close to the surface) - I am wondering what it is and if I have to start over and reposition the paper holder (not looking forward to removing toggle anchors..) or if I can just drill through it...

There are 2 holes because I thought it was just a nail the first time....

this is a 2nd story bathroom and there is nothing on the other side of the wall
it is not close to any outlets ---- it is close to the hinge of the bathroom door

Are you sure that's drywall & not plaster?

not sure... it might be plaster - i don't really have anything to compare it to... it seems thick and relatively substantial... i was able to gouge into it easily with a screwdriver over a cardboard template though

How old is the house? How thick is the substance you are drilling through?

it was built in 1976... it was around .75 inches thick to drill through for the other holes

The age of ththe house would make me thnk it is drywall. The thickness seems a little too thick. Can you show is a picture that is a little sharper.

Pull back on the picture so we get a better overall of where it is in relation to all the bathroom fixtures. May be a vent pipe that yo hit, although, would not explain the ability to drill directly above it without hitting anything.
