Hanging various items on the walls

Hi all,

I hope i've posted in the right section, if not i apologise.

I recently moved into an apartment and am wanting to hang various items on the walls (large mirrors, loads of pictures, coat hooks, shelves, etc).

The building is 10 years old but the previous owners haven't put any pictures up so i've nothing to go on and don't want to be drilling into next doors lounge!!
The walls seem quite thin when tapped, but we don't have any major sound issues so i guess it's pretty well insulated.

Thankfully, the previous owner left a manual behind, which says the following:

" The inner skin of the external walls of your apartment are constructed with concrete blocks rendered on both sides with a dry lined plasterboard finish.

The partition walls are metal studwork.

The party walls consist of a 275mm blockwork cavity wall which has been rendered on both sides.

Exercise care when fixing to any wall to ensure that the method and number of fixings used will support the load."

So what walls are the party and what is partition?

Any advice on what fixings to use would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forums! Your exterior walls and the walls between the residences are of concrete masonry units (CMU) with finishes on each side. Partition walls are the walls just inside your living space, such as between kitchen and dining room, bedroom and bathroom, etc.

Hanging pictures and mirrors can be achieved relatively easy on the sheetrock on the partition walls by using a product such as Gorilla hooks. They make minimal holes in the wall and will hold a considerable amount. The Hillman Group 0.42 in. Monkey Hook/Gorilla Hook Combo Pack-591818 - The Home Depot

As for the CMU walls with sheathing, you may need to use plastic inserts with screws to expand the plastic inside the CMU. This will require the use of a concrete bit of the size needed for the plastic mollies.

Please add your country to your profile. This is primarily a North American forum so products mentioned here may have different names in the UK.

Chandler, thank you for your advice, I will look into this. Also what would you suggest for heavier items on a partition wall? Was hoping to hang a clock and although it isn't too heavy, it is a delicate one so don't want it falling!!

Ray, apologies. Yes I am from the uk (it shows up on my profile as that but not on the threads? Don't know if there is a way of amending this) but I can easily look at pictures of suggested fixings and once I have an idea what I'm looking for, can check my local hardware store for said items!
At the moment I just want to make sure I won't damage the walls of mine or my neighbours apartments by just putting some pictures up!
