Load bearing or not load bearing that is the question

I'm looking to remove a interior piece of glass in my entry way. As I started to peal away the drywall I found what looked to be a header. This wall does not appear to support anything however it looks odd to me so I thought I would ask around and get others thoughts.

Before I took the framing/drywall away this was a interior glass French door with a arched window above it. I want to remove the arched window and the framing below it. I have attached three pictures and am looking for advice.

From what I can see this is 2 2x6 boards nailed together and it appears to span 10 feet and ends. On the right side it stops into another interior wall. On the left side the wall continues however I drilled a few holes past 10 feet and do not see the 2x6 any longer.

My gut tells me this is okay to remove however I'm not sure.

Welcome to the forums.

I doubt that is load bearing. The 2x6's were installed as a header due to the width of the opening and to hold up what looks like a pretty heavy piece of glass.

Are you going to open that entire area or are you rocking in the window area ?

I agree, if it was load bearing the header would either be at the top of the opening or have studs extending to the top. It doesn't appear to support anything more than the glass and give the drywall something to attach too.

The only drawback I see is that it is probably acting as a collar tie holding supporting members around it vertically. Load bearing, probably not, but I'd still have an engineer look at it to give blessings before you cut it out.

I'm just looking to remove the glass and keep the arch in the wall. basically clean up the line and remove the glass to create a bigger opening. I was worried about it supporting something on either side however with the wall ending just after the 2x6 it leads me to believe its not a issue. I'm not going to remove the vertical frame just the exposed framing under the glass and the glass itself.
