I just bought a house and the walls have way too much
spackle on them. I would like to go to a "stucco-style"
texture, and paint them a different color.
How do I best go about this, without having to tear out
and put in new sheetrock ?

Hello,

You can either try to texture over your existing texture, or apply a new layer of sheetrock over your existing layer and then texture.

Good Luck!

Texture over Texture

How would I get the new texture to look like stucco ?

Hello,

The texture you are referring to is called Knock-down texture. Its usually created with a hopper and air compressor, or a mud-dobber. You can usually rent the hopper and air compressor from a hardware store. I would not recommend you try this if you have never used a hopper. If you want to try to texture yourself, I'd recommend you go the mud-dobber route.

The mud-dobber site is:
http://www.mud-dobber.com

Good Luck!
