Is it possible to fit Roxul into place after you have already put strapping on the joists?

Sure but you've already figured out it's not going to be as easy.

will I need to cut it into smaller bits or maybe slide it all from one end?
If smaller parts, presumably, there will be more connecting lines to tape up so it might not work as effectively?

What did I miss, lines to tape on Roxul?

Where are these joists that you can't drop the insulation in from above. Sorry if I don't remember previous posts.

Room is 11ft long.
Roxul fits in between 16" joists but it's not 11ft long, so aren't there points where you join 1 bit of woll onto another bit? Doesn't that allow the potentital for sound to come through?

Could drop it through but it would be more work to move stuff in the room above and take up the flooring than to put it in from the bottom, which is open at the moment.

I think Bud thought there might have been an attic above.
Once you press 2 the ends of 2 pieces of insulation together there shouldn't be any gap.

I only question why you didn''t insulate before you put the strapping in. I believe that was a point in previous posts.

If this area is under living space then is the insulation strictly for insulation value or sound reduction?

In some cases where I want a 100% fill, but the standard thicknesses of insulation don't add up correctly, I will cut pieces to the depth of the rafters and insert then vertically. Then push them gently together and you have a very full cavity.

You mention a roll of insulation. All of the Roxul I have worked with comes in 47" batts intended to fill an 8' wall cavity. But in any case, cutting and fitting together is not a problem.

I have found Roxul cuts exceptionally smoothly using a long bread knife without serrations. I keep a sharpening steel rod handy and it keeps it sharp.

Because at the time, I was following the advice of some hardware store guy to put in 3 layers of drywall! So, I had already put the strapping in

So, if I use Roxul, can I just put the finished planks straight onto the strapping or must I use 1 layer of thin drywall and then planks, ie Roxul, strapping, drywall, planks.
