trim uneven wall

Not sure how to finish this since I can't use caulk.
Can I cut something out of the back of the trim?
The middle plank sticks out either because of the door jan e an uneven stud.

Yeah, that would probably be your only solution. Probably it would have been better if you didn't have all those joints right there in the hardest spot in the first place... one long piece might have bent around the "bump".

I think even a longer piece might not bend.
What's the best way to cut out the back?
I'm not even sure that's enough given that it sticks out more than the thickness of the wood.

I'm with X, no way would I be using short pieces like that.
Tried using a block of wood and tapping to see if you can get the T & G to level out?
Should be scribing and sanding with a belt sander not cutting it to fit.

You might split the difference Hold you trim where it goes scrib a line on the pine paneling. Work a little off the panel with a sharp chisel. don't get below the line. Do a little at a time and check. Then take a small block plane and work some off of the flat spot on the bottom of the trim. been there done that.
