Fixing Stair railing - looks to be glued only

Just moved into new home and at top of stairs, railing looks to have been glued to wall multiple times and has come loose from wall. Doesn't seem to be screwed into anything and there is no stud there to anchor into. Anyone have any ideas on how I can repair this?? Thank you!

What's on the opposite side of this wall? A closet maybe? If so, I would open up a hole in the wall, cut out a section of drywall from stud to stud... then insert a piece of 2x4 between the studs...flat against the drywall where that mount is. Then you will have something solid to screw to.

Then patch the hole you made in the drywall on the opposite side of the wall.
