Replacing mobile home ceiling
I'm just about to remove our crappy card board ceiling and hang drywall. I read a lot of posts stating to brace the trusses well. My question is on the outside walls my trusses run over my door frame and outside wall.
How can I hang drywall if I can't screw to anything ? I can screw to the middle of the room just not around doors or out side frame. If any questions.... please ask. Thank you, chris lien

Can not make heads or tails out of your post.
No pictures of what your talking about.
If it's an older mobil home it's got all it can do to hold up that older pressed board.

Welcome to the forums.
Chris.... we need a picture or two of what is under your cardboard ceiling. Actually, it's not cardboard.... it's most likely a pressboard or Masonite.
Those units weren't designed to carry the weight of the snow and a heavy ceiling. So sheetrock may not be the best choice.
Updating your location would help too.

For some reason the board wants to turn your pictures. Hopefully I have them all the right direction.
I see you pointing to a 2" strip on the ceiling. Does that strip come out ?
What is the significance of that strip ?
I see you pointing to the wall. Does the ceiling go over that wall or just to it ?
There must be something there holding up what's existing unless it's glued up.

Have you exposed any of the ceiling framing? pics of that would be helpful
I'm having trouble following your problem. Drywall should be hung perpendicular to the rafters. The drywall would be screwed every 16" along the outer edge of the ceiling. I've torn down several cellotex ceilings in older MHs and replaced it with drywall. I believe you have masonite. Normally I've had to add framing along [attached to] the MH ceiling rafters to beef them up.

Are you removing the ceiling for a reason, or just.....because? They aren't fun, as all your pre packaged insulation will fall out as well. You'll need to replace it as you go, or add new (probably better choice). As mentioned you will need to add nailers along the wall edges both interior and exterior and possibly bracing between the trusses so you can install the sheetrock. I know the guy recommended thinner sheetrock, and you can find 3/8" in lightweight, but without substantial blocking it may tend to sag.

I've never had to add nailers along the edge or in between trusses on a MH but the ceiling truss is fairly weak to start with so I've usually added lumber along side [attached] to the truss to stiffen it up.

Yeah, I was just suggesting that if he chose to use the 3/8" stuff. Here's one we looked at yesterday for a lady in Florida. She was wondering what it would cost to refurbish it so she could live in it. i told her C4 in strategic places would help and put a new home in its place.
