Want to replace furnace grille

What happens if I unscrew the two screws that hold this ratted out grill in place? I want to replace it. Do you think it would take two people to replace it (another person up in the attic)?

The duct work is normally held in place with nails or other means, especially in an older home.
I would only suggest you find your new grille/register before removing the old one. Odd sizes can be difficult to find off the shelf.

This register is 11 3/4" X 7 3/4".
I found one at Home Depot that is 12" X 8". Hopefully the screws line up. The Home Depot frame looks a little wider than my existing grille. Maybe everything else is the same.

Screws can usually be driven in even if they don't line up with old holes. The important thing is the new register "guts" insert and fit freely into opening, allowing it to open and close.

Thanks. For $10 it's worth a shot.
