Good way to hang window rolls on a drywall?

Hello,

We moved to the US recently and in my native country we rarely use drywalls, usually the walls are made of concrete..

The house I rent is made of wood, drywall is used for interior.

First I tried to simply use short 1" screws that were included with the window rolls, but the fasteners were absolutely not steady because the drywall is of course not hard enough.

After some reading I decided to buy Drywall Anchors (plastic anchors that pop up in the end and lock themselves) recommended by many people for drywalls.
But it turned out I can't screw the anchors to the full length, I think because beneath the drywall there is something harder. Hard to see but it seems it's plywood or some other type of wood.
It seems there is about 3/8" or 1/2" of drywall and 3/8 or 1/2" of (ply)wood.

Currently I just used longer (1.5-2") screws without any anchors but I wonder if there is a better way to hang my window rolls and other mid-weight things (2-20lb) on my walls?

I understand I can find studs and simply use screws, but what if I need to hang something exactly where there is no stud.

Kind regards,
Pavel

Need a picture.
Most are hung from the trim around the window. (casing)
There is no plywood.
At least 99% of stick built houses have jack and king stud on the sides of the windows.
Plastic anchors are useless.

Here is the picture, don't know if it helps though.

The rolls are too long to hang them on the window casing - we have taken them from the previous apartment. We move often, so it's a little bit expensive to buy new things every time we move...

Buy new ones to fit, there's no wood in that area.
You can buy mini blinds at any Wal-Mart that will fit for about $4.00.
Leave the old ones behind next time you move.

Just want to jump in and comment that while some people do hang treatments on the molding, this is not the right way. They should be either inside as an inside mount or on the wall above the molding, whether blinds, shades or rods.
