flaking ceiling paint, how to remove it?

Hi everyone. I painted my bedrooms and afterwards i noticed the paint peeling. I didnt want it to peal so i started to scrape it, and it came off easy for abits. And then it was super difficult to remove. And this is what my question is, how can i scrap it easier?

I tried a hand scraper, a drywall scraper, using a drill and a wire brush(its a paint remover) and that just scratched, i used a sander and that just seemed to make it harder.

Any ideas how i can remove the paint so i can repaint and make it look good?

Im not sure why the paint is flaking, it was flaking a little bit before and i just tried to use a bit of plaster to hide it, but the sorrounding areas seemed to fake after painting.

I imagine because there was moisture in the house before the paint didnt hold very well.

yes you're right. it's due to the moisture that is in the house. Is this paint flaking in a big area or small?

Welcome to the forums!

I'd scrape/sand as needed and then skim coat over the rough areas to smooth it out. No need to remove all the ceiling paint.

Hi everyone, thank you for your replies.

The area is flaking is rather large in some areas. Some rooms are flaking more than others. I assume since the ex owner of the house had some roof issues.

Ive removed as much as i seem to remove. And i will do what you suggest by skimming it with some plaster to smooth it out. Its been tough work and taking me way too long (3 weeks) just to remove the ceiling paint.

Thank you

If there are any water stains in the ceiling you'll need to coat them with a solvent based primer to insure that the stains don't bleed thru the finish paint.
