Angry

I have been installing drywall (cutting and attaching to wall) over the past couple of weeks and as a result have noticed extreme dryness in my skin all over generally. Even if just lightly scratch or itch, say on my forearms, it produces a raised rash that lasts about 15 minutes then goes away, even a day after exposure and after showering. I'm wondering if the gypsum or whatever in the drywall is affecting my skin.

Is this a typical problem? Any advice?

Yes, it is common. Whenever I work with it, I get the same results. The dust must suck up all the oils on the skin. Washing doesnt help the matter. At night, cover your hands in vaseline and where gloves or socks over them. Sounds crazy, but nobody will see you with em, and it helps alot!

Not that I have actually done this. LOL.

Thanks, Handycapable. Somewhere in the past I recall hearing that soap and gypsum react together so that the soap doesn't really work. I thought it was suggested that you rinse yourself first with white vinegar (yuk!) or something like that, it neutralizes the gypsum and lets the soap work.

Not that I've actually tried it myself....
