Is there drywall behind wood paneling
Some of the rooms upstairs and most of the basement in my house has wood paneling. Please check the picture attached. Is there drywall behind the paneling? Is there a way to find out if there is drywall behind it? What are the pros and cons of wood paneling walls with and without drywall? Thanks.

I'm just a Real Estate Broker, not a Carpenter; but most of the Paneling I've seen is attached directly to the studs. Pull an electrical outlet and look to see if the Paneling is backed by Sheetrock . . . . doubtful.
Paneling is often used in older construction to hide old irregular plaster or wallpaper, and in new construction because it's cheap . . . . but it is easy to clean and somewhat child and pet resistant.

Paneling without wallboard behind it is strictly a cheap way of covering a wall. It is not a good construction method. It has no stability and can be hit and cracked. I'm not even sure if it is against code.
I'd like to hear from our electrical experts as to the safety aspect of electrical boxes being secured to just paneling.

You can't tell what is is behind it untill you do looking, outlet cover, drill a hole, something. Each room could be different.

edit... actually the sound will be more of a hollow sound.
