Hard to tell. Is it just the paper tape and drywall mud peeling off, or does the drywall appear to be cracking? What's above this area? Anything heavy? It looks a bit like the framing is deflecting causing the drywall to fail....

Can you push the drywall up? If so, it will need to be resecured prior to retaping.
As Paul asked - what's above?

when you say "resecured" are you saying the drywall sheet needs to be resecured to the ceiling joist?

There appears to be 14" of insulation with some duct work above the cracked area.

Unless the framing is failing, the drywall has come loose from the ceiling joists. If you can push up on the drywall it is the latter. If so, take a 2x4 or basically anything to spread the force and push up the drywall and rescrew it to the joists.

I don't see signs of water damage, but any chance you are getting condensation on the duct work? Can you look at the top of the drywall and see if there are any water marks?
