What is my ceiling made of?

My garage ceiling is soft and crumbly ,I scraped it off and under the white top texture it is brownish paper look alike with maybe mica?! mixed in it, also was set on what looks like cement or maybe plaster that has grooves in it, the house was built in the 70s.

I would also guess drywall. Unpainted texture in a humid environment will fail over time, I suspect the moisture in the air caused the texture to start loosing it's bond with the drywall. Pics would keep us from guessing

One more vote for sheetrock being the likely material.
