What happened to the paint job?!

In only one corner of the bathroom, the paint has bubbled up and peeled off. This happened about 2 years after moving in. No idea what they painted or primed with. Most of the house is plaster, but this is drywall.

How can I fix this?

First is to figure out why. In a bathroom my first thought is moisture and next is latex paint over oil. After that would be contaminants on the surface when it was painted.

The 2 main reasons for paint to peel is moisture underneath the paint and a contaminant [including latex over oil base enamel]

The fix would be to scrape off the loose paint, sand and apply a thin layer of joint compound to level it out, sand, prime and repaint. Is the house old enough for lead paint to be a concern?

Yes, 1800's. But with drywall in the bathroom and only 1 coat (it's peeling to primer, nothing between primer and drywall) I have a feeling it was new drywall and paint when we bought it a few years back.

If the primer and drywall are still sound the odds are it isn't a moisture problem.
Could you post a pic of the affected area? http://www.doityourself.com/forum/el...-pictures.html
