Baseboard heater where I need a wall

Hello, in the attached pic, the blue tape follows a joist on the ceiling where I would like a wall. What would the procedure be for dealing with the baseboard heater in the way? Should I just cut the metal of the outer casing off so I can fit part of the wall into the area and put a baseboard heater snap on cap up against the drywall? There would still be heater element technically in the wall doing that. I doubt I could cut everything but the copper pipe out.

I assume this is a hot water radiator since you mention copper pipe.

When we built out our offices, the inspector allowed the wall to be built right " over" an electric baseboard heater. Looked crazy but they allowed it.

If yours is simple pipe and fin type you may be able to remove the outer case and the fins, just leaving the pipe itself to pass thru the wall. Then finish the cut outer case ends to the wall surface.

Just ideas, make sure its ok by your inspector!

I think what we need to know if it is electric or hot water. How much space to the right do you have in the right hand room? You may be able to separate it at the joint and slide the right unit (provided it is electric) to the right, missing the wall all together with proper wiring and junctions.

The inspected allowed me to essentially cut out the fins and the actual white metal enclosure to fit the wall. From there I will just buy the pieces used to connect 2 baseboard 8' runs together and put them on either side of the wall. I also wrapped the copper pipes in foam. There are supports in the heater that hold the outer frame together and I slid them close to the wall to hold everything together.
