What Kind of material is this?
I am attempting to repair a hole in my wall but am unable to discern what type of material it is. Can someone offer advice please? Picture is attached to post in a file.

Welcome to the forums.
I tried to add the closeup view pic of the material to your original pic and the original was removed. My apologies.
Is this indoors or outdoors ?

Unfortunately it will be next to impossible to do an invisible patch. You could try slipping a backing board behind the hole with construction adhesive on it, use a couple of screws to hold the backing board till the adhesive sets and the wall is patched. Bondo may work for the patch. You'll have to carefully mimic the notch in the paneling before the Bondo sets.
After it set syou can sand and paint. Remove the screws when finished and patch the holes. A mason's pointing tool might work for making the groove. You might need to enlarge the hole to get a backing board in.
Backing board is anything you have that will work such as a piece of 3/8" plywood.
