matching ceiling texture

Hello, back in 2005 we had popcorn texture removed from our home and had the ceiling re-textured as the following:

We have another room of the home that we'd like to match this with, the contractor who did it is long and gone, but was wondering what technique and tools would be required to get something similar to the pictures above? Also if possible, if someone could name the style of this texture, please share!

Welcome to the forums!

It looks like it might have been rolled on. You'd take joint compound and thin it down to around paint consistency and then roll it on with a shaggy roller. It might take some experimenting to get it right. The thinner the j/c is the lighter the texture will be, the thicker it is the more pronounced it will be. How thick the nap of the roller will also play a part.

I think it is a stomp texture. Maybe a crow foot brush was used or maybe a round brush. Or maybe some home made tool. mix the mud as marksr suggests then dip the tool into the mud and stomp it against the lid. Usually two or three stomps per dip. You might have to experiment with the consistency of the mud and the number of stomps per dip.
I made one out of a piece of plywood about 10" diameter and some carpet pad on top of that then a couple layers of burlap over that. I put a long handle on it so I can reach a 9' lid from the floor. If it were just a little bit smaller it would reach all the way to the bottom of a five gallon plastic bucket.
