Load bearing partition wall

Hey all, I'm planning a kitchen remodel and a part of it is removing this hideous wall. I'm mostly sure it's not load bearing, but it does run perpendicular to the ceiling joists so I'm a little worried. Can anyone tell by looking at this if it's load bearing or not? If not how can I check short of gutting all the drywall first?

Thanks!
David

It would not be possible for a wall to be load bearing if it doesn't even touch the ceiling.

Here is another view, there are no obvious columns or beams or anything.

That's my fervent hope, but I was worried that it was a lateral support of some kind due to the vaulted ceiling.

If it's not touching the ceiling, it's not load bearing. There may be structure inside the adjoining walls where your half wall meets but the section that only goes part way up is not load bearing. Just remember when doing demo that there can be electrical wiring or plumbing in there somewhere so don't go crazy like TV show.

Thanks for the help, looking forward to conservatively wrecking this thing then.
