Drywalling around tub surround.

Couple questions about drywalling my bathroom and specifically around the tub surround and tub.
First. How far around and above the tub should I be using moisture resistant drywall. The rest of the bathroom that I didnt touch is just basic drywall.

and second. The tub surround has a thin flange and by the looks of it people usually drywall overtop if the flange. However I was required to shim out spots of the tub surround flange so it doesnt stress and crack. So the question is do I put the drywall on top of the flange and I just live with the fact that there is a slope there? Or something entirely different?

Regular drywall primed and painted with latex enamel will be fine around the tub surround.
While it looks best if the studs are shimmed out to match the lip, most just hang the drywall over it and call it good enough. Painting bath rms I always notice the 'slope' but I suspect most homeowners do not.

Looks like you need to add a stud next to the surround on the bottom pic.

Thanks for the quick reply. I considered needing another stud there but rough in specs for the wall set suggested I dont need it. Which led me to believe they expect you to just screw through the flange for the drywall on that stud

If you screw thru the flange it's best to predrill first so there is no danger of it cracking.
