Stucco ceiling stains from leaks

HI all,
I am new to this forum and have been looking for some help. My roof recently leaked leaving a yellow stain on my ceiling. The roofer is coming to fix the leak but I need some help getting the stain out of the ceiling. The ceiling is made out of stucco. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!
Sharon

#1, It needs to be completely dry before doing anything.
Use a stain blocking primer and repaint the ceiling with ceiling paint.

Welcome to the forums Sharon!

Stucco or drywall texture? As Joe said you need to coat the stain with either an oil base or pigmented shellac primer. That will seal the stain so you can paint over it with latex paint. Depending on how old the paint is and where the stain is will determine if you can just touch up the paint or need to repaint the ceiling. Get the roof fixed first, then take care of the stain.

Thank you!

Thank you Joe and Mark for your suggestions! They are very helpful. The roof is fixed so I’m going to try and cover the stain based on your suggestions. So glad I found this forum!
