Vaulting a a ceiling

I have a 24 x 40 ranch with a 6/12 pitch. 2x6 roof rafters and ceiling joists. I also have a 6x8 main beam running the length of the foundation.One end of the ridge beam will be supported by the gable end foundation while the other will be supported by the 6x8 main beam in the basement., What i really need to know is what size ridge beam will i need to support the roof. I do live in the north east.

Strangers on the Internet cannot do structural engineering for your house sight unseen. There are span tables available online you can consult. Your local inspectors may require a professional Engineer to design your beam, beam supports and footer.

Mystery board beneath drywall

We live in a split-level house in the midwest that was built in 1975. We are currently in the process of remodeling our lower level after dealing with substantial flooding around labor day. As we are getting ready to start the rebuild I decided that it would be nice to rip out the outdated paneling and wallpaper and I have noticed that between the wallpaper/ paneling layer and the drywall, there is a thin layer of something like melamine that seems to run all the way up the wall. Does anyone have any experience with what this is? What purpose does it serve? I have attached some photos for clarification.Read More

I'm planning on hang a 75" TV and a media center on my wall. It is cement block covered with drywall. Drywall is installed using some sort of metal furring strips so there are no studs. I believe all I need is the right hardware, isn't it? This should help explain the scenario: I tried [url=http://www.toggler.com/products/snaptoggle/overview.php]Snaptoggle[/url] but after making the roles and putting it in place I can't get the screws in. Looks like it won't be properly aligned (a nice 90 degrees) due to block imperfections and the gap. Then I thought about the metal toggle bolts. The problem with those is that I need a 5/8 hole for a 1/4 screw. The head of the bolt won't have any support and since I already have a one inch gap... is it still a viable solution? My third option (that I know of): sleeve anchors like this one: [url=https://www.itwredhead.com/products/expansion-anchors/dynabolt#54313-overview]Dynabolt Sleeve Anchors[/url], but I'm really concerned about the gap between the drywall and the cement blocks. If having only about 1 inch of a 3 inches sleeve anchor inside the block will be enough. Also what happens if the tip of the sleeve anchor goes through the block wall? Is it still safe? TV is around 80 lb according to website ([url=https://www.costco.com/Samsung-75%22-Class-(74.5%22-Diag.)-4K-UHD-QLED-LCD-TV.product.100416069.html]Samsung QLED 75"[/url]) and will be mounted with a TV bracket. Media center is 70 inches wide and it has 6 holes that I can use to basically hang it.
