Painting Cinder Block,Waterproofing paint/Primer, In Which Order

Hi,

I'll be painting my basement cinder block walls. They are currently unpainted.

I plan to apply:

Zinsser WaterTite Oil Based Waterproofing Paint
Zinsser Block Filler 2X primer
Top coat

Which order should I be applying this? Should I first apply waterproofing paint, then primer or other way around?

Also, should I use latex or oil based top coat?

Thanks!!

First, don't expect great things from waterproofing paint. Every application I've seen it eventually flakes and lifts off the wall if there is water or water vapor constantly pushing on the outside.

As for which order to apply or whether or not to use a primer I would follow the instructions on the paint can. My guess is that the waterproofing paint must go on a clean, bare wall.

If I'm not mistaken that waterproofing paint works best if applied to bare masonry - you wouldn't use block fill or any other primer. You apply 2 coats, no other finish paint is needed.
